Project: Image/Word Book
Programs: Illustrator, InDesign
The objective of this project was to be able to combine imagery and words in interesting ways to enhance visual storytelling. This project creates complex type compositions, with a single image and word, expressing the meaning in a 4-page accordion-fold book format with a front and back cover. I ended up choosing for my imagery, a bird to be combined with the word chirp. Throughout this project, I fell in love with the idea of the juxtaposition between the word and the image. While a chirp is one of the smaller sounds a bird can make, I tried conveying it as something more aggressive and loud.
Brainstorming & Sketches
When I started sketching my illustrations, I didn't have any particular bird in mind. I just knew that I wanted it to be a small bird since they are more commonly associated with the word, chirp. I played with the idea of making the bird very realistic or in a more stylized version. I ended up heading down the stylized path because I found that version to blend better with the text.
